Well nobody is asking YOU to reward her or anyone else. Survivor paid her the money, Money of which I am sure they made directly from the show that Denise was on. You were manipulated??? Did somone force you to watch?? Blame them then. Denise was awarded the 50 K because they wanted to help her. Good Lord knows she could use it no matter what she does for a living. There is not one person on this forum that would say no thanks to 50K

Don't you think for one moment the result would have been the same had she not lied to get it? If you think that is the way to do things...then forgive me if I don't agree....

She may have misrepresented the facts, but what she was trying to say was that she wanted her day job back so she could go to her childrens functions. And her previous day job was not available and the school did not want her disrupting the school with her new celebrity status. This is all a mute point anyway because she donated the 60K to Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation. Now are all the negative people happy?? 5  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

AP) Denise Martin, who gained fame as the lunch lady on CBS' reality show "Survivor: China," is donating the $50,000 she received from producer Mark Burnett to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation.

Martin told viewers on Sunday night's live finale that she'd been demoted to janitor at a school in Douglas, Mass., after finishing fourth on the show. After hearing her story, Burnett surprised Martin with the money to help get her life back.

On Tuesday, Martin acknowledged on CBS' "The Early Show" that she'd been promoted to custodian, at her own request, before the competition began.

"It was not my intention to be misleading," Martin, 40, said on the broadcast. "I'm sorry, and I apologize to everybody."

In a statement issued Tuesday by the network, Martin said she took "full responsibility" for her actions.

"I do not feel comfortable about accepting the $50,000. I would instead ask that it be donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation," the statement said. "Please accept my apology. I would also like to thank all the people who have supported me through this experience."

I say good for her for donating the money to charity. I understand eveyone feeling bad for her due to all the negativity, but what i have not seen anyone post is sypathy for the people she works for. Obviously all of her sympathetics don't realize that the principal of the school received Death threats towards himself and his family, also others in the that school system had also received threats from the many Denise supporters. Look i don't think she should be burned at the stake and i'm sure she's a nice person and all but i don't feel bad if this whole thing upset's her, My heart felt sympathy goes out to those who actually received threats stemming from this, they are the true victims. Let this serve as a valuable lesson to all even the smallest "innocent" lie can have great repercussions. No lie is a good lie no matter the intent. 2  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

Joetruth...well said...totally agree. I read where the school personnel felt like they were slapped after being so supportive of her.....listen if she felt she was innocent of misleading anyone she would not be donated the monies...now that she has...all is forgiven...

She apparently has schooling. Why she was not able to utilize it in the lunch room or as a janitor is questionable. She should not be around impressionable kids. She is a liar and no apology will suffice. She is a disaapointment to all. Her family sat smiling in the audience as she lied. I cannot understand why her boss does not hire her. Public lies and disparaging comments about one's boss should lead to dismissal. Burnett and Coutrney are right she does need a new start in life but not a gift of money. 0  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

The fact that she lied publically and made disparaging comments about her boss is enough eviadence for me. She should not be in education around impressionable kids. She has some education so she needs to utlize it. Her family just sat there and smiled in the sudience as she blatantly lied. She she get nothing and be fired. 0  out of 4 found this valuable. Liar, liar, pants on fire. She has to ba accountable. If she did not want the promotion and different hours, why apply? Why not tell the truth about her position when she came into the game? Why whine about low wages? She should not be around kids. 0  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

I so agree..at least a charity will get the $$ and for that all is well..What I don't understand is how she felt she could get away without getting caught with millions watching? Can't figure that one out...and you are right..she didn't lie in the game....topsy turvy??

So what if you worked over the summer. A lot of people have to just to survive. You heard James when he was 11 they put a shovel in his hand and told him to get digging and he has done it ever since. As for judging, didn't you judge Denise by saying what you said about her living on her salary, then you turn around and tell me not to judge someone I don't know. Honey, she is a true blue U.S. Citizen who is entitled to any help she can get, but the citizens of this country can't get any real help, because of the immigrants. They come in off their boats from Cuba. They autimaticly seem to get jobs, where there are citizens who could use those jobs, but we have to figure out how to live on 7 bucks an hour to feed our families. Its hard enough for white citizens to get jobs in this country. Its twice as hard for black citizens to get jobs in this country, then it is for white folks. Its also twice as hard for hispanic people to get jobs in this country then it is for the black people and so on and so forth. We don't need immigrants coming in here and sucking down our job market, then making responses that demean the hard working American. I can't wait for harsher immigration control, then maybe America will get back to focusing on taking care of her citizens. 0  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Your post makes little sense to me. You are quoting things I have not said or even read on here. And has nothing to do with the thread of "Denise" However what I will say is the USA is primarily immigrants. Unless you are a Indian, like a Cherokee, Choctaw or Sioux etc... your ancestors were immigrants and you would not be here without immigration. This is not to say I agree with allowing illegal aliens in the country, I think we need control and control fast. The illegal aliens will do jobs the rest of us won't do and for less money, then illegal aliens have children born here and these children are then legal residents of the USA which we pay for via welfare. I could go on here forever on how I feel about taking care of the illegal aliens vs. our own hard working US citizens.
